Apple opened a developer preview on November 3 that lets third-party apps connect more of their features to Siri AI. App makers can start testing in the 27.3 betas. Apple says the first customer release is still a few months away and App Store submissions for the new integrations will open in the spring. It gave no exact launch date.

That distinction matters if you have an iPhone and are wondering what to expect from an update. Siri already works with some outside apps for familiar tasks such as playing an audiobook or sending a message. The preview gives more developers a way to make their own app actions available to Siri. An app maker still has to build the integration before its customers can use it.

What app developers can test

In its developer announcement, Apple says the preview is available in the iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS 27.3 betas. Developers use App Intents, the framework for describing actions and information an app makes available to the system. A delivery app could expose an order status, for example, or a restaurant app could expose a reservation action.

The preview also introduces skills that let a developer group several actions into one request. Siri can use what is on screen and the context of a conversation to work out which action the user means. The Verge reported that a user may be able to leave the app name out of a request if the app is already open, running a Live Activity or part of the conversation with Siri.

Apple says it has begun adding more of these capabilities to its own apps, including Calendar, Files, Maps, Photos and Reminders. Those examples give developers something to test against. They also explain why a task in an Apple app may show up before a similar task in a third-party app. Apple says it will provide more details about terms and usage policies for Siri AI integrations.

Siri AI in beta requires an Apple Intelligence-compatible device and a supported language. Apple lists English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Feature availability can vary by region and language. Apple also says some server-powered Siri AI features have daily limits. The limits can vary with the request and system demand, so the company does not give a single daily allowance that applies to every user.

For iPhone owners, the difference to watch is whether a specific app has released its own integration. Seeing Siri AI on the device, or seeing a new action inside one of Apple’s apps, does not tell you that the same action is ready in an app you downloaded.
