Cleo AI customers who paid for eligible instant cash advances are due to receive PayPal refunds starting Tuesday, October 27. The Federal Trade Commission plans to send 2,124,796 payments totaling more than $15.8 million.

Recipients have 30 days from the payment to accept it, according to the FTC's Cleo refund instructions. The agency lists no-reply@consumersentinel.gov as the sender of eligibility notices sent between October 8 and October 26. That notice window ends today; payment distribution starts tomorrow.

A familiar sender address alone does not establish that an email is authentic. The FTC's refund FAQ advises recipients to enter ftc.gov/refunds or PayPal.com directly in their browser instead of following email links. The agency never requires an upfront fee or sensitive financial information to release a refund.

The FTC announced the refund program October 8. Techlicious's October 9 explanation noted that the FTC had not announced how individual payment amounts would be determined. The program covers eligible instant-advance customers; the total distribution does not establish what any one person will receive.

The payments follow the FTC's March 2025 complaint alleging that Cleo overstated available cash advances, charged extra for delivery that could still be delayed, and made subscriptions difficult to cancel. Cleo agreed to a $17 million settlement.

For a missing notice, a payment question or help with the acceptance window, the FTC lists refund administrator Rust Consulting at 1-877-788-4958.
