Anthropic began rolling out Personal Finance in Claude on November 5. The beta lets U.S. subscribers on Pro, Max and Ultra connect accounts through Plaid and ask Claude to explain spending, balances and upcoming bills. The connection gives Claude read access to the accounts you select. Unlinking an account stops future reads, but figures already discussed can remain in your chat history.
The rollout is gradual. Anthropic says the feature is available on the web, desktop, iOS and Android as it reaches eligible subscribers. Free, Team and Enterprise plans are outside this beta. If the Personal Finance entry is missing from the sidebar and the More menu, the rollout may not have reached your account yet.
What Claude can read

When you link an institution, Plaid handles the sign-in and shows which accounts you can share. Anthropic’s help page says Claude does not see your bank password. For accounts you authorize, it can see the institution and account names, account type, balances and credit limits. It also receives up to 24 months of transactions, including amounts, dates, merchants, categories and descriptions supplied by the bank.
Plaid normally passes along only the last few digits of an account number. A full number can still reach Claude if the bank includes it in the account name or a transaction description. For linked loans, cards and investments, Anthropic says the tool reads balances and credit limits where applicable. It does not read rates, loan terms, holdings or trades. The connection cannot pay a bill, transfer money or place a trade.
Plaid can ask for consent to share more types of investment, credit or loan data than Anthropic says Claude reads today. The consent screen describes what you are authorizing Plaid to share. Anthropic’s help page describes what Claude currently uses.
The account selection determines the scope of the answers. If you want to review subscriptions paid from one credit card, you can select that card without giving Claude access to your checking or investment accounts. A spending total from that setup will leave out purchases paid from those other accounts. If you ask for a total, ask Claude to list the underlying transactions so you can see which merchants and accounts it counted.
A balance can be a day or two behind
Anthropic says displayed balances can lag by one or two days. The same account linked through two logins can be counted twice. If Claude loses access to a bank, the spending figures omit that bank while it is disconnected. A total that looks precise can therefore miss spending or count it twice. For a payment due today, check the amount and available balance with the bank or card issuer.
Anthropic says the beta is designed to help you understand spending and balances. For example, Claude can show what you paid in interest across linked cards, but it is not designed to give investment advice.
What unlinking leaves behind

You can unlink a bank in Claude or revoke the connection at Plaid Portal. That stops Claude from reading the bank through the connection. If an earlier conversation contains a balance or a list of transactions, unlinking leaves that conversation in your history. Anthropic says financial data in a conversation stays in chat history until you delete the chat, subject to its retention practices. Plaid handles data under its own terms.
Anthropic’s launch announcement says conversations in the Personal Finance hub are excluded from model training. If you share financial information in a regular Claude chat, your existing privacy settings apply. To stop future account reads and remove an old spending summary from your chat history, revoke the bank connection and delete the conversation where the summary appears.
