Bank of America's next Museums on Us weekend is November 7 and 8. Eligible credit and debit cardholders can get free general admission at participating institutions around the country. For a family, the remaining guest tickets can still add up.
One eligible card gets its holder in. It does not make the whole group free, and a separately ticketed exhibition can still cost extra. Some museums have their own free days that are a better fit for visitors bringing guests.
What the card offer covers
Bring an active Bank of America, Merrill or Bank of America Private Bank credit or debit card and a valid government-issued photo ID. The bank lists passports, state IDs and driver's licenses as accepted identification. Admission is nontransferable, and the offer cannot be combined with other promotions.
The national terms cover general admission. Special or ticketed exhibitions, enhanced experiences, additional offerings and fundraising events are excluded. Free admission also does not guarantee entry: individual museums set their procedures and operating hours.
The partner list includes the Heard Museum in Phoenix, the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California, and the Anchorage Museum. Some partners participate on only one day. Bakersfield Museum of Art is listed for Saturdays; San José Museum of Art is listed for Sundays. Those exceptions make the museum's own page more useful than a general promise of a free weekend.
Bank-card promotions sit alongside museums' public free days, a distinction also documented in Houston Chronicle reporting on the program. The best choice can change when guests come along.
Three ways to spend less
| Option | Who can enter free | November dates and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Museums on Us | The eligible cardholder, with card and photo ID | November 7-8; participating venues and individual restrictions apply |
| Orlando Museum of Art's Access for All | All visitors | Third Thursday, November 19; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. |
| Whitney Museum's Free Second Sunday | All visitors with tickets | November 8; 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; capacity is limited |
All hours are local. The Orlando and Whitney programs are separate museum offers, so visitors do not need a qualifying bank card to use them.
Orlando: calculate the guests' tickets
The Orlando Museum of Art confirms November 7-8 participation from noon to 4 p.m. It accepts eligible cardholders at the front desk without advance tickets. Each additional guest needs an eligible card of their own or a paid admission.
Its current ticket prices are $20 for adults, $12 for seniors 60 and older, $10 for students with valid ID and $8 for children ages 6-17. Children 5 and younger enter free.
For two adults and two children ages 6-17, the ordinary total is $56. If one adult qualifies for Museums on Us, that falls to $36; if both adults qualify, it falls to $16. These are admission-only calculations, assuming no other discounts or separately priced events.
For a group that can go on a weekday, the museum's third-Thursday Access for All program offers free admission to everyone from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. That makes November 19 an alternative to paying for guests on the bank weekend. OMA says parking is free except during Festival of Trees.
Dayton: general admission has a broader reach
The Dayton Art Institute also confirms November 7-8. Its general admission includes its collection galleries, Focus Exhibitions and Special Exhibitions. Fundraising events and ticketed programs remain excluded.
An exhibition described as special is not necessarily a separate surcharge. Check whether the museum includes the exhibition in general admission or sells a separate ticket for it.
Dayton lists Saturday hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday hours of noon to 5 p.m. Present the card and photo ID at Guest Services. The museum cautions that free admission does not guarantee a reservation.
New York: Sunday is free without a bank card

The Whitney's Free Second Sunday falls on November 8, overlapping the bank weekend. Admission is free for everyone from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., but tickets are required. The museum recommends reserving ahead because capacity is limited.
The museum releases free tickets a month in advance. Use the reservation link on its program page to choose an available time.
