SLR Food Distribution is recalling Wise Wife ground cinnamon sold in 14 states because it may contain elevated lead levels. Households should stop using the affected product and discard it or return it to the store for a full refund, according to the October 29 company notice posted by the FDA.

Match the jar and date

The recall identifies a 110-gram (3.88-ounce) clear plastic container with a black screw-top cap. The UPC on the back label is 0688474302754, and the best-before date is April 25, 2027.

The cinnamon was distributed to retail and grocery stores between September 8, 2025, and June 28, 2026, in Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The company initiated the recall after a sample collected and analyzed by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station showed elevated lead levels. It reported no illnesses in the October 29 notice.

A separate September 2025 Wise Wife recall, which the FDA lists as terminated, covered a smaller 50-gram jar with a different UPC. Check the identifiers on the current notice.

If someone has eaten it

Lead cannot be detected by looking at or tasting food, and most exposed children and adults have no symptoms, the CDC says. A lack of symptoms does not establish that exposure was harmless.

If you think a child consumed the recalled cinnamon, contact the child's health care provider. The provider can decide whether a blood lead test and follow-up care are needed.
