Ravi Coltrane's quartet and Kurt Elling with Yellowjackets shared the Carhartt Amphitheater stage at Detroit Jazz Festival on Saturday, September 5, with starts at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.
The official 2026 schedule paired Ravi Coltrane Quartet: Centennial Celebration with Kurt Elling and Yellowjackets' Weather Report program.
There was an earlier option on the same stage: African Rhythms Alumni Quintet's Randy Weston centennial celebration at 4:45 p.m.
The City of Detroit's event record confirms the September 4 to 7 festival at Hart Plaza. The festival's own announcement explains that 2026 programming also used the Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center at Wayne State University. The schedule therefore extended beyond the riverfront cluster.
| Saturday set | Time | Stage |
|---|---|---|
| Randy Weston centennial celebration | 4:45 p.m. | Carhartt Amphitheater |
| Ravi Coltrane Quartet | 7 p.m. | Carhartt Amphitheater |
| Kurt Elling and Yellowjackets | 9:15 p.m. | Carhartt Amphitheater |
The evening's announced starts were two hours and fifteen minutes apart, though that interval does not establish either set's length.
The African Rhythms set honored Randy Weston; Ravi Coltrane's quartet was part of the festival's Coltrane centennial programming.
Admission to the festival was free, and the organizers also announced free online streams. That made remote listening an alternative for people who could not travel. A stream's inclusion in the live program did not promise that an archived recording would remain available indefinitely; later availability depends on the festival's own channels.
