Firefox can now check selected web pages for a price drop, a restock or a new job listing through its Smart Window beta. For shoppers and job seekers, the practical limit is timing: Mozilla says checks run daily or weekly, and only while Firefox is open.

The feature appears in the Firefox 159 release notes, dated October 27. Mozilla calls it a gradual rollout, so updating the browser does not guarantee that page watching will appear immediately.

Who can use page watching

Mozilla's October 27 announcement places the new features in the opt-in Smart Window desktop beta, in English in the US and Canada. Those limits apply to these additions; they should not be confused with every market where Smart Window itself is available.

The Smart Window setup guide says the experience requires a Mozilla account. Once enabled, it can be opened from the Firefox menu as a new Smart Window or used by switching a Classic Window. Classic, Smart and Private Windows can coexist, so choosing the assistant does not require using it for every browsing session.

Set a watch around a specific change

Mozilla's task instructions describe two starting points: Create new task or the /watch command in Smart Window chat. Give the task a name, describe the change, add the pages and choose the checking schedule.

A task can follow up to five pages, and you can have up to 15 active tasks. Adding more pages does not make the checks continuous. A daily watch could miss a short sale or an opening that appears and disappears between checks, a consequence of the stated schedule rather than a measured failure rate.

What you needWhat the feature provides
Follow several retailers or job pagesUp to five pages in one task
Learn about a matching changeAn update in Tasks and optional desktop notifications
Check while Firefox is closedChecks require the browser to be open
Change or stop a watchEdit, pause, resume or delete it in task management

A green dot on the Tasks button signals a match. Clicking a desktop notification opens the watched page. On macOS, the support guide says Firefox notifications are off by default; the operating system's notification settings must allow them for desktop alerts.

Technobezz's October 27 report, by Luka Berger, also identifies the open-browser requirement and the choice of daily or weekly checks.

Check a watch before relying on it months later

Mozilla's announcement says tasks pause after 60 days without a matching change and stop checking after 90 days without a change. Its task support page agrees about the 60-day pause but says all tasks pause 90 days after creation.

Those are different rules for a watch that has already found a match. The official pages checked October 27 do not resolve that difference. Review the task's status in the Tasks dashboard before relying on an older watch.

Form assistance shares selected source information

Smart Window also adds form suggestions based on tabs you choose, such as a resume or professional profile. Mozilla says selected source-page information goes to Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite for field detection and extraction. Page watching uses Qwen. Changing the chat assistant's model does not change those task-specific models.

Mozilla's form guide lets users review, deselect or replace suggested source tabs. Generated entries need review before filling a form, and Smart Window does not submit it for you. Ordinary saved Firefox autofill, including stored names and addresses, continues to insert local data without sending those saved values to an AI model.

The form guide has another unresolved discrepancy: its instructions say at least four eligible text fields, while its FAQ says five. Both versions limit the feature to supported forms. If Fill from sources does not appear, manual entry and regular autofill remain available.
