Two nearly identical product names can hide different ports, accessories or setup requirements. Before holiday shopping becomes a string of open tabs, a small source notebook can keep the exact manuals and your unanswered questions together.

Google's October 23 Notebook announcement adds Gemini Notebook as a Connected App inside Gemini. Users can create notebooks, manage sources, save notes and ask questions about notebook content from a chat.

For a product comparison, the notebook can hold the manuals for two models and a checklist of differences that affect the purchase.

Confirm the connection and the account

Look for Gemini Notebook in Gemini's Connected Apps settings. Google says the integration is available to personal Google accounts, Workspace Individual subscribers and Workspace customers. It is on by default globally except in the European Economic Area, where it is off by default.

In a managed account, both Gemini and Gemini Notebook must be enabled for the user's group or organizational unit. Google's Connected Apps instructions describe how to inspect the available apps and their supported actions. Availability can vary with the account and device.

Use the account where you intend to keep the research. A notebook created in a work account can be governed by the employer's access and retention policies, even when the shopping task is personal.

Build the source list before asking for a winner

Create a notebook named with the two complete model numbers. Add manufacturer materials for those exact models: the manual, specification sheet and any accessory list relevant to the purchase. Record the source date where it is visible.

Ask Gemini to list the notebook's sources. Check that each source belongs to the model named in the notebook, including any regional suffix. Remove a near match before it can contaminate the comparison.

An original comparison prompt might be:

Using these sources, compare the ports, included accessories and setup requirements of the two named models. Attach a source reference to each factual difference. Mark any unanswered item as not found. Do not infer a specification from a similar model.

Use a table that leaves room for missing evidence

QuestionModel AModel BEvidence to open
Required connectionConfirmed detail or not foundConfirmed detail or not foundManual section
Included accessoriesConfirmed list or not foundConfirmed list or not foundPackage list
Setup requirementConfirmed step or not foundConfirmed step or not foundSetup instructions

Open the cited section for each difference that would change your purchase. Check whether the passage describes an included item, an optional accessory or a separately sold service. Those can look alike when compressed into a short answer.

A hypothetical charger comparison shows why the evidence column helps. One manual might say that a cable is included while another says that a wall adapter is required. Those statements answer different questions. Ask separately whether the box includes a cable, whether it includes an adapter, and which rating the adapter needs. Leave a cell blank until the relevant manual answers it.

For a printer, apply the same method to the connection you intend to use. A general statement about wireless support would not answer whether the setup needs an existing network or a separate account. Copy the exact requirement into the comparison before asking for a recommendation. These examples are hypothetical.

Keep live shopping terms outside the manual comparison

A manual can explain how a device works. It usually cannot establish today's seller price, inventory, return window or promotion. Check those details directly on the actual listing and save them separately with the date.

Likewise, avoid uploading an order confirmation containing an address or payment details simply to compare specifications. The manufacturer's public documentation is usually sufficient for comparing specifications.

Save a final note containing only verified differences and unresolved questions. Keep the source links with it. The new connection can also edit or delete notebooks and sources, so name the intended notebook clearly when making changes. Review its source list again before using the comparison for a purchase.
