JetBlue now charges $50 to $70 for the first checked bag on flights within the U.S., Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada, depending on when you pay and when you fly, according to its checked bag fee page. The new rates apply to bookings made on or after Nov. 3. Anyone who booked earlier should check the fee listed for their trip in Manage Trips.

Peak dates cost more, and they cover most of the next 12 months. That includes Nov. 5 to 11 and the whole stretch from Nov. 19 through Jan. 18, so Thanksgiving and holiday trips booked now pay the higher rate.

These fees apply per bag, each way, to Main Base, Main, Main Flex and EvenMore fares on those routes.

A third bag costs $200. A bag over 62 linear inches or 50 pounds also carries an extra fee.

Paying ahead is the main way to save. Adding bags online or in the app at least 24 hours before the flight cuts up to $15 off each of the first two. That means a round trip in peak season with one bag costs $110 if you pay early and $140 if you wait until the last day. You can also pay with TrueBlue points before check-in. Bag fees are refundable only if you cancel the whole booking before departure.

Who still gets free bags, and how it compares

Some travelers still check a first bag free. That covers BlueFirst and Mint fares, Mosaic 1 members and JetBlue Plus and Premier cardholders, under the conditions in JetBlue's footnotes. BlueFirst and Mint fares above the base level, and Mosaic 2 through 4 members, also get a free second bag. Every fare still includes a carry-on and a personal item.

On transatlantic flights, base fares pay $80 for a first bag booked ahead in off-peak dates and $90 in peak dates. Main and EvenMore fares there include the first bag.

For comparison, American Airlines charges $45 online or $50 at the airport for a first bag on domestic and nearby international routes, and $55 or $60 for a second, with $5 more on Basic Economy. That online price is $5 below JetBlue's cheapest first-bag rate and $10 below its early rate for peak dates. American last changed its bag fees on May 18, 2026.
