Netflix has set January 19, 2027, for the return of Blue Eye Samurai. The animated series will have six new episodes, and Maya Erskine returns as the voice of Mizu. The date narrows the January window Netflix announced in August. The first season is still streaming on Netflix.
The November 3 announcement puts Mizu in London in 1657. Season 1 ended with her sailing for England to pursue the two men still on her list. Creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green told Netflix that they wanted to put her in a city where she would stand out in a different way than she did in Japan. London’s underground life gives her places to look for the men, while the city’s religious restrictions shape the world she has to navigate.
The action also returns to Japan. Akemi and Taigen have to contend with a new shogun at Edo Castle, while Ringo looks for a new direction, according to the season description reported by What’s on Netflix. Brenda Song, Darren Barnet and Masi Oka return as the voices of Akemi, Taigen and Ringo, respectively. Noizumi and Green return as creators, and Blue Spirit is again handling animation.
Netflix announced the exact premiere three years after the first season debuted. It says Mizu’s story is due to conclude in 2028, when the previously announced third and final season is slated to arrive. There is no exact date for that season in the new announcement.
