The $48.99 vinyl edition of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has seven fewer advertised tracks than Target's $16.99 double CD. For fans choosing a physical copy before the November 13 release, the cheaper format includes more of the song album.

The full artist lineup reported November 2 by Film Music Reporter includes Jennifer Lawrence, Tyler Childers, Ella Langley, Stevie Nicks and The Cure. Lawrence's "Deep in the Meadow" and Childers' "Old Money" appear on the CD list but are absent from the vinyl list.

What the two Target editions include

Target lists its exclusive two-CD edition for $16.99, with 29 tracks and a bonus sticker sheet. Its exclusive Wild Sunflower colored vinyl costs $48.99, spread across two LPs with 22 listed tracks. Both are preorders with a November 13 street date.

That is a $32 difference before tax and shipping. The vinyl costs about 2.9 times as much as the CD at those listed prices. Its exclusive feature is the record color; the CD's advertised extra is the sticker sheet. A buyer seeking the longer physical track list can spend less by choosing the CD, provided they have a way to play it.

This comparison covers the two specific Target editions. A two-disc package also does not tell you how much music is included: the CD spreads its 29 entries across two discs, while the vinyl divides 22 entries among four sides.

Comparing the retailer's lists leaves these CD entries absent from the Wild Sunflower vinyl:

  • "The Raven I"
  • "The Raven III"
  • "But You Wanted More"
  • "The Goose and The Common"
  • "The Old Therebefore"
  • "Old Money"
  • "Deep in the Meadow"

"The Raven II" remains on the vinyl and opens its first side. The longer CD sequence begins with "The Raven I" and places "The Raven II" sixth. The formats therefore change the running order as well as the number of tracks.

The differences extend beyond the short entries. Film Music Reporter's credits identify Hudson Freeman on "But You Wanted More," Scot Greenan on "The Old Therebefore," Childers on "Old Money" and Lawrence on "Deep in the Meadow." Someone buying mainly for one of those performances should choose a listing that explicitly includes it.

Several prominent songs appear on both Target lists, including Noah Kahan's "Draw You Out," Gigi Perez's "Favor," The Smashing Pumpkins' "Black Stars" and The Cure's "Alone (Live in Berlin 2022)." The last is specifically billed as a live recording. The listings do not establish that every song on the album will be heard in the finished film.

The song album and score have different release dates

The November 13 release is the various-artists song album, produced by Dave Cobb. Film Music Reporter announced that release date on October 2.

James Newton Howard's original film score is a separate release. Its 35-track listing is dated November 20, the same day Lionsgate's film opens in US theaters. Howard's score includes cues such as "Haymitch Meets Snow"; it is a different purchase from the album containing Kahan, Nicks and Lawrence.

The song album arrives a week before the film. Neither physical preorder's street date guarantees arrival at a buyer's home that day.

Where Target will ship these editions

Both product pages exclude delivery to Alaska, Hawaii, APO/FPO addresses, PO boxes and the listed US territories, including Puerto Rico and Guam. That limitation applies to the advertised CD as well as the vinyl.

The quoted prices were listed November 2 and exclude any applicable tax or shipping charge. A checkout delivery estimate is needed to establish when a particular order will arrive.
