Grand Theft Auto VI comes out Nov. 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and buyers can start downloading it a week earlier, on Nov. 12. Rockstar's publisher, Take-Two Interactive, set the price at $79.99 for the standard game and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition in its pre-order announcement in June.
Price and editions
| Edition | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $79.99 | The game |
| Ultimate Edition | $99.99 | The game plus extra vehicles, weapons, clothing and other items tied to the story |
The PlayStation Store listing also sells an Ultimate Edition upgrade for owners of the standard game. Every pre-order or purchase before Nov. 20 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack, a set of throwback in-game items.
The game is sold through the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and retailers. Rockstar lists only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and has not announced a PS4, Xbox One or PC version.
When you can download and play
Digital pre-orders can be downloaded starting Nov. 12, according to Take-Two, so the files are already on your console when the game unlocks on Nov. 19. Rockstar has not posted a launch hour, and the PlayStation Store lists only the date.
The boxed version holds a download code, Take-Two says, and goes on sale Nov. 12 so its buyers can preload too. Buyers with slow or capped internet should plan for that, since the box still means downloading the game.
The free GTA+ month renews automatically
Digital pre-orders come with one free month of GTA+, Rockstar's subscription, which covers perks in GTA Online and a library of older Rockstar games. The details, from the PlayStation Store's offer terms:
- It applies to digital Standard or Ultimate Edition purchases made before Nov. 20, 2026.
- You can claim it any time until March 31, 2027.
- After the free month, it rolls into a paid monthly subscription. To avoid the charge, cancel in your account's subscription settings before the next payment date.
- It can be claimed once per account. Existing subscribers get the month added to their current subscription.
What the game is

Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player game set in Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida. Its leads, Jason and Lucia, end up in a criminal conspiracy after what should have been an easy score goes wrong. Rockstar's site flags blood and gore, intense violence, nudity, strong sexual content, strong language and drug and alcohol use, plus in-game purchases.
The official soundtrack album, with 34 original tracks, comes out the same day. The electronic duo Justice composed the game's original score.
