Chris Brown received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, at London’s Southwark Crown Court on October 26 for affray arising from a 2023 nightclub attack.
Reuters reported that the 37-year-old singer and his vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, pleaded guilty to affray in July after denying more serious charges. The case concerned an attack on music producer Abraham Diaw at the Tape nightclub in February 2023.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Tony Baumgartner found that Brown struck Diaw twice in the head with a tequila bottle, then continued the violence as Diaw moved away.
Brown’s eight-month term followed a one-third reduction for his guilty plea. The judge considered the short, unplanned incident, compliance with bail and the assessed risk of further offending when deciding against immediate imprisonment.
The 12-month suspension sets the period during which a new offense could activate the prison term. The judge said the court would ordinarily have to activate the sentence in full or in part if Brown committed another offense during that period, unless doing so would be unjust.
Akinlolu received a four-month prison term, also suspended for 12 months. Neither order carries additional requirements. Each defendant must pay £1,500 toward prosecution costs within one month, plus the applicable statutory surcharge.
