Netflix announced an iPhone Duo app update on October 26 with a redesigned home screen and playback controls that adapt to the phone’s folded positions. Vertical-to-horizontal switching for Clips remains on the company’s roadmap.

In its release announcement, Netflix says the controls support full-screen viewing, book pose, tent pose and tabletop use. A reflective lighting effect on the controls responds to the hinge angle.

The company lists seamless, frame-accurate switching between vertical and horizontal clips as coming soon. It has not supplied a release date for that feature.

That timetable is more limited than the description in Apple’s October 22 app showcase, which presented Netflix Clips moving between the outer and inner displays with seamless changes in orientation. Netflix’s newer announcement separates the player redesign launching now from the clip-switching work still ahead.

A second planned change has a longer window. Netflix says themed Clips categories will arrive in 2027, with feeds organized around genres, moods or interests. Clips are short previews of series, films and specials that help members choose something to watch.

To check for an available app update, Apple’s instructions direct iPhone users to the App Store, then their account photo and App Updates. Tap Update beside Netflix if the option appears.
