Walter Koenig, who played Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series and Alfred Bester in Babylon 5, has died at 90. His appearance agency, Galactic Productions, announced his death on October 26.

The agency's statement said he died at home in North Hollywood the previous night, surrounded by his daughter and niece. TVLine independently confirmed his death and reported a statement from his talent agent.

Koenig joined Star Trek at the start of its second season and remained through the end of the three-season television run. His association with Chekov continued long after those episodes, through films, voice work and appearances for fans.

He reprised the character in all six original-cast Star Trek films, beginning with The Motion Picture and continuing through The Undiscovered Country. His later voice work included President Anton Chekov in Star Trek: Picard, a different character bearing the same family name.

Babylon 5 gave Koenig another recurring science-fiction role as Alfred Bester, a senior officer. His other television credits included Columbo, Ironside and Diagnosis Murder. He also voiced himself in Futurama.

The agency's announcement remembered his convention appearances and his connection with the Star Trek audience. Those meetings with fans continued a relationship that began with his television role in the 1960s.
