Little Giant is recalling about 3.66 million ladders sold nationwide because they can suddenly retract when their Rapid Locks are not fully engaged. Owners should stop using affected ladders and contact the company for the repair instructions and warning labels, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Nov. 5.
The notice reports 25 incidents of ladders retracting, including 19 injury reports. Three involved head injuries, including traumatic brain injury and skull fracture. Little Giant also received 39 reports of Rapid Locks not working properly.
Which ladders are included
The affected models are Adjustable Fortress 2.0, Conquest 2.0, Dark Horse 2.0, Epic, King Kombo XT, Leveler, MegaLite, MegaLite+, Multi, Quantum and Vector. Look for the Little Giant brand and model name on the side. The black or orange Rapid Locks fit into the rungs to adjust the height.
The recall excludes ladders with an orange rectangular "QC" sticker on the rail above one of the Rapid Locks. An affected model without that sticker falls within the notice. The CPSC page includes photographs of the models and locks to help owners compare their ladders.
The ladders were sold from December 2015 through October 2026 for about $100 to $1,000 at Lowe’s, Costco and other stores, and online through Amazon, the retailers and Little Giant.
How the remedy works
Little Giant’s recall notice describes a repair kit with labels and instructions covering lock engagement and lubrication. Follow the company’s recall process before returning an affected ladder to use. If a lock still does not work properly after lubrication, contact Little Giant for evaluation.
A replacement or refund is conditional on a lock continuing to malfunction after that evaluation. The replacement can be the same or an equivalent model. Refunds range from a depreciated amount based on purchase date to the full price for ladders purchased within the past 12 months. Owners can contact Little Giant at 866-201-9069. The recall number is 27-067.
