Harry Reid International Airport has completed a $71 million baggage-handling upgrade across its two terminals, including work on 16 Terminal 1 carousels. The Las Vegas airport announced the completion on October 23, after three years of work.

In Terminal 1, crews upgraded eight carousels and replaced eight others. The work also included replacement conveyors and new carousel columns with LED screens. Terminal 3 received computer hardware and software upgrades for the baggage system’s controls.

The airport says the project finished on time and within budget, largely using federal infrastructure grants. Officials expect it to improve baggage handling and reduce congestion. The announcement does not give a measured reduction in passengers’ waiting times.

If your bag does not arrive

The completed airport work does not change who handles a missing-bag claim. The U.S. Department of Transportation says airlines are responsible for locating checked bags that fail to arrive at their destination. File a report with your airline as soon as possible and keep in contact while it searches.

For delayed baggage, airlines must reimburse reasonable, verifiable expenses passengers actually incur, subject to liability limits. Keep receipts for necessary purchases. DOT says an airline cannot impose an arbitrary daily reimbursement cap, such as a blanket $50-per-day limit.
