Flooding continued in Metairie after heavy rain moved out Saturday evening, according to the National Weather Service. Its 7:32 p.m. CDT update cited reports from emergency management, media and the public. The warning for north-central Jefferson Parish remains in effect until 9 p.m. CDT October 31.

The weather service reported 3 to 6 inches of rain in the warned area. Its latest bulletin identifies the flooding as observed, replacing the earlier radar-based assessment. Residents and people traveling for Halloween should check the current warning polygons and avoid flooded roads.

A separate warning covers mainly rural east-central Washington Parish until 9 p.m. CDT. Issued at 6:05 p.m., it reports 2 to 3 inches of rain and continuing heavy rainfall. Neither Louisiana warning covers its entire parish or all of metropolitan New Orleans.

Nearby, a new warning issued at 7:39 p.m. CDT covers rural west-central Pearl River County, Mississippi, until 10:45 p.m. CDT. Radar indicated 3 to 5 inches of rain there, with another 1 to 3 inches possible.

FOX 8 meteorologist Amber Wheeler's Saturday morning forecast had called for scattered showers through the evening, with isolated heavier downpours. That forecast preceded the evening warnings.

Jefferson Parish's flood-safety guidance advises people not to walk or drive through floodwater and to monitor JPAlert and local broadcasts. Drainage ditches and canals can carry dangerous, fast-moving water. The parish identifies 870 AM and 101.9 FM for emergency broadcasts.

A warning's scheduled expiration is not an all-clear. Check current local instructions before traveling.
