Comcast plans to eliminate 634 positions at its Philadelphia headquarters, with layoffs beginning December 31, according to Pennsylvania's official WARN listing. The notice covers the company's offices at 1800 Arch Street and 1701 John F. Kennedy Boulevard.
The state's listed end date is December 31, 2027. That yearlong window means the filing does not put every affected worker's departure on this coming New Year's Eve.
PhillyVoice reported October 30 that some workers in eliminated positions will stay through the end of 2027. The company will try to place affected employees in existing openings or new positions created by the restructuring, the outlet reported.
New roles and severance
Comcast plans more than 1,100 new roles across its US campuses, including more than 500 in Philadelphia, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer's reporting on the layoff notice. The company has begun notifying affected employees, the newspaper reported.
Those planned openings do not establish how many of the 634 affected Philadelphia workers will move into another Comcast job. Subtracting the proposed hires from the announced cuts would give a misleading picture of what happens to those employees.
PhillyVoice reported that employees who do not move into another company role will be entitled to severance benefits. Its report does not give a payment amount for individual workers.
The Inquirer identified engineers, product managers, executive assistants, social media analysts, construction specialists, business analysts and information technology leaders among workers reporting job losses across the US.
Pennsylvania's listing does not identify each employee's last day, job title or severance package. An individual departure date or payment cannot be inferred from that statewide summary.
