Flash flooding covered parts of State Highway 141 and U.S. 281 in Kleberg County on Sunday after 5 to 8 inches of rain fell, according to law enforcement reports relayed by the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi. A flash flood warning issued at 1:23 p.m. Central on Nov. 8 covers parts of Duval, Jim Wells and Kleberg counties through 4:30 p.m. Central.
The warning includes Kingsville, Premont, Ricardo, Riviera and Naval Air Station Kingsville. It also covers stretches of U.S. 281 and U.S. 77. The weather service said flooding was already occurring when it issued the bulletin and could continue after the rain stopped in that area.
Farther south, the Texas Department of Transportation announced that it had closed U.S. 281 north of Falfurrias because of flooding, according to KRGV. Drivers can use DriveTexas to check whether a route is open before leaving. The weather service advises drivers to turn around at flooded roads and leave barricades in place.
A separate warning for southeastern Kleberg County, including Malaquite Beach, runs through 3:30 p.m. Central. In that area the weather service cited radar estimates of 1 to 3 inches already fallen and said another 1 to 3 inches was possible. The Brownsville weather office also issued a flood warning for Cameron County and southeastern Willacy County through 3:45 p.m. Central, reporting flooding in low-lying areas and at some low-water crossings.
