Drivers can use Topanga Canyon Boulevard between Pacific Coast Highway and Mulholland Highway only if they are residents during Saturday’s red flag warning, Los Angeles County said. The restriction on State Route 27 began at 2 a.m. and is scheduled to end at 6 p.m. Pacific on Nov. 7. Sheriff’s deputies are staffing checkpoints, and Caltrans has directed through traffic to the 10, 101 or 405 freeways.
The National Weather Service warning covers the Santa Monica and Santa Susana mountains, the Santa Clarita Valley and parts of the western San Gabriel Mountains. Santa Ana winds and low humidity can cause a fire to spread quickly. Drivers can check Caltrans QuickMap before leaving for any change to the closure.
Parks and trails
The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority says all parks it manages are closed Saturday, including those owned by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. That includes Franklin Canyon Park and the Mulholland overlooks. California State Parks separately says hiking and riding trails, fire roads and undeveloped areas in its Angeles District close during a red flag warning.
Parking in the city of Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Fire Department says its separate parking restrictions begin at 6 a.m. Saturday and last until at least 6 a.m. Sunday. They apply on streets with posted red flag parking signs. Check LAFD’s red flag page before parking. The city’s restrictions are scheduled to continue after the canyon road is due to reopen.
