A Lakewood, Colorado, police agent was killed and three others were wounded Thursday evening in a shootout with a suspect on an RTD bus, the city said in a release. The agent who died was Nicholas Allen Graham, 33, who joined the department in 2019.
Agents fired back and killed the suspect, whom police have not named. A bystander was also hurt, and the city has not said how badly. The three wounded agents are in stable condition.
What happened on West Colfax

Lakewood police responded around 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 to a call about a suspicious person near West Colfax Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard, according to the city. A suspect from an earlier hit-and-run was spotted getting on a northbound RTD bus. When agents made contact with him on the bus, he began shooting.
Four agents were hit and taken to hospitals with serious to critical injuries. Graham died of his wounds.
The First Judicial District's Critical Incident Response Team is investigating under its standard protocol. The city calls its account preliminary and says more details will follow.
Who Agent Graham was

Graham started on Jan. 14, 2019, and became a field training agent in 2023, according to the department's memorial page. He later worked on the Persons and Major Crimes teams investigating homicides, domestic violence and stalking, and handled 322 cases on the Major Crimes Team, the most on the team. His father is a retired sergeant, and his mother worked in a crime scene laboratory. He is survived by his wife and their 1-year-old child.
Mayor Wendi Strom said the city stands with the families of "our fallen agent and our three injured agents" and asked residents "to come together to mourn and to care for one another."
The city says the only official fund for donations to those affected is the Lakewood Police Department Employee Assistance Foundation, linked from the memorial page.
