Five people were killed and more than 10 were injured Saturday after a man opened fire from a car in Kraków’s Main Market Square, police said. Officers shot and detained the suspect, and emergency crews were still working at the scene when the city issued its update.

The shooting began shortly after 3 p.m. local time near Sławkowska Street, which leads into the square in the Old Town. Police said the gunman fired at people at random. Officers confronted him near the intersection of Dietla and Stradomska streets. Two officers were among those wounded, Reuters reported, citing a police spokesperson.

The city of Kraków said the local transit operator also reported shots hitting a Line 1 tram at All Saints’ Square. A window in the driver’s cab broke. The driver and passengers were unhurt.
